Dear Procrastinators…Today is not the last day for your 2010 Individual Federal Income Tax Return. The IRS announced that even though the 15th of April is not a holiday or a Saturday or Sunday, the final date for the reception of returns will be on April 18, 2011. You can actually thank the boys on The Hill and “Honest Abe” for this one. Today is Emancipation Day and Washington D.C. is celebrating. This is the day Pres. Abraham Lincoln signed the Compensated Emancipation Act. Since its acceptance in 2005, Emancipation Day has been observed as an official holiday in D.C. Still, the change doesn’t move all individual federal income tax deadlines forward. Unfortunately for those overseas, the exception due date is still June 15, 2011. However, individual federal income tax returns on a “normal” extension will be due on Monday, Oct.17, 2011; that’s because Oct. 15, 2011, (the regular extension due date) falls on a Saturday. The only date that is changed is from April 15, 2011 to April 18, 2011. Official IRS release here. |
